OLDER people living in King’s Somborne will be able to take part in a new exercise class thanks to a cash boost.

The parish council has received a grant of £780 from Test Valley Borough Council to fund its Steady and Strong Exercise Classes in Epworth Hall.

The donation was given as part of the authority’s Councillor Community Grant and presented by ward member Tony Ward.

It will allow for the class to be delivered by a qualified instructor who is specially trained to help reduce falls in older people.

Village agent for King’s Somborne Sue Jackson said: “I am delighted to receive the grant, which will make the classes accessible to all. Don’t sit at home, come and join in, improve your fitness and keep yourself stronger for longer, and enjoy exercise in the company of others.”

The grant will cut the cost for those attending the sessions for the first six months by covering hall hire and the trainer’s expenses.

Cllr Ward added: “These courses will be a great help to any of our residents who want to improve their balance, flexibility and confidence, especially following a fall. Being active also helps them to maintain their independence while making new friends.”
