BARTON STACEY enjoyed a fun run in the sun, raising more than £4,500 for its pre-school on Sunday.

Nearly 200 runners took part in the 10km and 3km races, with the additions of a jazz band, bouncy castle, an array of stalls and a Top Gear style ‘fastest lap’ of an obstacle course also at the event.

The day was in aid of Barton Stacey Pre-School, a charitable organisation which moved from the village hall to its own building in December.

It currently hosts 20 children and plans to open up an after-school club for three to 12-year-old children in the near future.

Lead trustee of Barton Stacey Pre-School Dr Lizzie Frost said: “The village and surrounding area have come together to make this event a resounding success.

“The runners were full of compliments regarding the smooth organisation of the whole day, for which we gladly thank the great teamwork from the organising committee, marshals and our families.

“There was a wonderful feeling of integration of the whole community.

“An extra special thank you to Jez Dykes for coordinating the races. After this weekend, and retiring from the British Army after 26 years of service, he deserves a well-earned rest!”

Sponsors for the day’s events included Landmarc, TOAST, Raymond Brown Waste Solutions and Karen Sykes Lettings, to name a few.

The event will be held on the same weekend next year, for more information search on social media for #bartonstaceyfunrun.
