A POLICE marine team are searching the River Anton as part of the investigation into the suspicious death of a woman found yesterday morning.

A 50-year-old woman was discovered in the river, near Bridge Street, at around 6.20am on Saturday, and a 39-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of murder.

The marine team began searching the waters today (Sunday), looking through the river from behind Iceland, and are now making their way down towards the Town Mills.

They will then go back further down the river for an extended search.

A police officer at the scene said the current cordon could expand if they find evidence.

The woman’s next-of-kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

Police are appealing for information as they conduct their enquiries.

Anyone with information should call police on 101, quoting Operation Source.
