ANDOVER’S new leisure centre is continuing to take shape while also revealing illustrations of what some of its new features will look like.

Activities to be offered at the centre, set to open in spring 2019, include a 7.5 metre ‘Clip n Climb’ for adults and children, a children’s adventure play centre, squash courts, a sports hall as well as a cafe.

After receiving feedback, Places for People Leisure and Test Valley Borough Council (TVBC) have also revised the number of exercise studios from three to four, which will include a virtual group cycling studio.

Contractor Pellikaan is putting the steel work in place, the cladding is nearly complete and the roof is on.

TVBC’s community and leisure portfolio holder, Councillor Tony Ward, said: “It is fantastic that the leisure centre is really starting to take shape and it’s amazing to see how far we have come in a relatively short space of time.

“I am also delighted that we have been able to take on board feedback from the public and have had the opportunity to make some really positive changes to the plans.”

Work for a six lane 25m pool along with a 15m learner pool with moveable floor and splash pad is also underway.

Places for People Leisure won the 30-year design, build, operate and maintain contract for the centre, as well as other leisure facilities across the borough such as Romsey Rapids, Charlton Leisure Centre, Knightwood Leisure Centre and Romsey Sports Centre by TVBC.
