WINTON Community Academy pupils triumphed against their counterparts in this year’s district athletics event.

The small team from the Andover school travelled to Charlton on May 22 to compete against students from across the area.

And the day was fruitful for the competitors, with Damian Dixon taking first place in the Year 10 boys 100m and Shannon Lee in the Year 9 girls javelin.

But the school also celebrated a pair of silvers as Oliver Coward jumping over 10m in the Year 10 boys triple jump and Owen Carpenter who cleared 1m 50 in the Year 10 boys high jump.

Other quality results including Gerson Aristoteles who won his 100m Year 10 boys heat and came fourth overall in his final.

Chloe Lee finished fourth in the Year 9 girls long jump, Emre Gozlugol fourth in the Year 10 boys triple jump leaping 9m 65, Lucas Hosking and Jimmy Rolfe who finished sixth and seventh respectively out of 16 athletes in the Year 10 boys’ discus.

PE teacher Nicky Chewins said: “I am really proud of all our students that competed today and for the support they showed to one and other whilst they were watching and observing the different events.”
