A POST Office which has grown to become a community hub could be crowned best in the country.

Enham Village Post Office and Stores has been selected for a Top Performer award by the national company in the Best Community Post Office category.

After taking over the shop 14 years ago Leslie Francis and husband Tim have grown the branch to not only offer stamps but social help.

Grandmother of 10 Leslie said: “I was really quite overwhelmed when I found out as there are 11,500 Post Offices and to actually see Enham Alamein up with all these other people and other awards - you don’t realise how big it is.”

The store was selected after an awards’ judge visited the shop and was impressed with its unique offering.

She added: “It is lovely to be recognised but we are appreciated by people here.”

The couple go above and beyond to help its customers and neighbours from making sure grit bins are full and providing an outreach Post Office service in Vernham Dean.

Leslie is also chair of the parish council and is a village agent supporting vulnerable people who need extra support.

The couple have not kept their award nomination a secret and are thrilled to have made the shortlist.

“For us we want other people to share in that, we have put it on Facebook and we got great feedback but this award isn’t just for us it is for the community that is Enham and the charitable trust,” Leslie added.

The pair will discover whether they have won at an awards ceremony in London today (Saturday).
