PARKRUNNERS dedicated their weekly 5k run to celebrate the 70th birthday of the NHS on Saturday.

A group of 383 runners who completed the course around Charlton Lakes and playing field dressed up as healthcare staff to mark the occasion, along with having cakes and balloons.

Andover parkrun organiser Simon Eggington said: “It went really well, numbers were good and it was a chance to say thank you to the NHS.

“We tried to make a big celebration of it. We asked people if they wanted to dress up, and had two paramedics dress up in their work gear.

“We also get quite a few doctors that run, especially from St Mary’s Surgery.”

The free event is open to walkers and runners of all abilities in multiple locations across the country.

More than 360 parkruns took part in the NHS70 celebration.

Speaking about parkun, Mr Eggington added: “The more people we can get out running from all backgrounds the better for us and the better for Andover.”
