AN Army Air Corps (AAC) veteran is running the length of Hadrian’s Wall in a bid for community support for a heritage project in need of £100,000.

Paul Edwards, who served in the army for more than 35 years, is fundraising for the Museum of Army Flying, in Middle Wallop, while it undergoes major restoration and improvement works.

The 62-year-old is getting ready to embark on the 84 mile challenge over three days in September in aid of the museum which he describes as a “a cornerstone of military and aviation heritage.”

To bring about additional support, the veteran has also become a member of the museum’s fundraising committee.

Paul said: “I believe the whole of this community shares that heritage and that is why I really want to go out to the community at this particular point as fundraising is very important.

“We want everybody to take ownership of this.”

The Winchester Road resident will be running across different terrains from September 10 to 13, and hopes to raise a mammoth £10,000 from the venture.

He added: “I’m not a long-distance runner, it will hurt.

“The route it is not like running a marathon route, it is a little bit of road, cross country, fell running and even when I do get to go on roads, nobody is going to be stopping the traffic.

“Over three or four days at marathon length is not going to be easy.”

Paul is calling for donations to his Justgiving page, which will then go directly to the museum’s fundraising account.
