HUNDREDS of students went out into the community as part of an action day to help others.

Winton Community Academy pupils went into residential care homes and primary schools to help staff at the organisations complete much-needed jobs.

Throughout the day on July 10, the 450 Year 7 to 10 students were involved in activities such as painting fences and picking up litter.

And this year they worked with a number of additional groups including the Andover Foodbank and Forces Re-engineered.

The aim of the day is to be altruistic, seeing things from other people’s point of view and making a difference to people and places.

About the event, a school spokesman said: “Winton is a Community School and being at the heart of our community is really important.

“We are incredibly grateful to all of our sponsors and to all of the groups and organisations who worked with us on this fabulous day.”
