A STOCKBRIDGE gallery gave art students a chance to show off their potential by exhibiting their work in a professional setting.

Owner of Wykeham Gallery Gerald Dobson invited pupils from Test Valley School to display their work and sit alongside internationally-known artists.

Headteacher Louisa Hiscock said: “I’m very proud of the standard of work our students achieve in their GCSE art and David’s chosen piece has highlighted his undoubted talent.”

As part of the opportunity Nickie Bedford-Davies from the gallery viewed all of the GSCE art final pieces and chose a winner of an image of an avenue of trees in pen and ink on card by David Mossman-Smith.

David’s work was displayed in the window of the gallery for the first week of their summer show.

The student said: “It’s a little surreal to see people viewing and discussing my work.”

His work was not only displayed but was also bought by a local resident who said they were delighted that art was being supported at a youth level and fell in love with the painting.
