FOR many years now Andover Carnival has used Weyhill Road as an assembly point and route for the procession into town.

Local residents no doubt appreciate seeing the carnival without having to go into town, but are the organisers aware that the ACTIV8 ‘bus service (operated jointly by Stagecoach and Salisbury Reds) uses this route on Sundays?

The route is from Andover to Salisbury and vice versa; and along the route are three other towns — Ludgershall, Tidworth and Amesbury.

There are two army camps at Tidworth and Bulford plus other communities along the way: so the service is well used.

During the several hours Weyhill Road was closed to traffic on Carnival Sunday, ‘buses are denied access to it, thus causing considerable in convenience to users; perhaps, most importantly, access to the train station — some passengers may have journeys to the four corners of the UK arranged and would be, I am sure, annoyed to say the least, to miss their train from Andover due to the Andover Carnival taking place.

So please, organisers of future Andover Carnivals, give serious consideration to the above and re-route the procession to a road which does not have a Sunday ‘bus service, thus eliminating the problems caused to ‘bus users on Weyhill Road and beyond.

Thanks are due to the people who work hard to organise the carnivals but maybe they don’t have local knowledge of Weyhill Road and its traffic use on Sundays.
