TRAVELLERS who were moved on from a playing field last week now face action by the borough council after re-settling in another location in the town.

Test Valley Borough Council (TVBC) received reports on Sunday that a group of travellers who had been moved on from Old Down Road last week were now at Charlton Lakes.

Posting on his public Facebook page, TVBC leader Councillor Phil North said the movements disrupted scheduled activities taking place in the park and Places for People took the decision to close its cafe on Sunday.

Corporate portfolio holder, councillor Maureen Flood, said: "Test Valley Borough Council is working as quickly as possible to remove the travellers at Charlton Lakes.

"The council is liaising with the police and bailiffs and is taking the appropriate enforcement action.

"We wish to reassure residents that we are doing all we can to move the travellers on swiftly."

Two caravans pitched up on the green area in Old Down Road on July 24, but around six more vehicles arrived after it is believed the group were evicted from the Britax Excelsior site.

A writ was initially served on the travellers on July 26, before TVBC served a legal order on August 7 instructing them to leave the site within 24 hours.

The authority is now seeking to force the travellers from the Charlton Lakes site.
