A CAR caught fire on the A303 westbound near Thruxton this evening. 

One lane was closed, and drivers  urged to approach the area with caution and expect delays. 

The incident occurred on the stretch of road between Thruxton and the junction with Salisbury Road (A338). 
 

A Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Firefighters from Andover were joined by colleagues from Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service on the A303 west near Cholderton this evening.

"Fire Control received multiple calls about a car fire and crews wore breathing apparatus and used one hose reel and a dry powder extinguisher to put it out. 

"Time of call 17:10. Stop message 17:51."

They also confirmed that no injuries were reported.

Hampshire Constabulary copnfirmed they were called to assist HIWFRS at the incident, and that it is not being treated as suspicious.
