Gripes and wrath at Grumpy Club pub

2:01pm Thursday 10th July 2008

The Bishop Blaize pub in Romsey has hit the headlines by being named the UK's first official Grumpy Club, where those of a dyspeptic disposition can go to bitch about issues that concern or don't concern them.

Most of the major newspapers have expressed an interest in the 300-year old hostelry, whose landlord, Wayne Jacobs, says: "We don't have happy hour here any more and it's being going really well."

Steve Potten, 57, president of the club, is eager for other pubs to form their own grumpy clubs and, if they can be bothered, liase with the Bishop Blaize.

"There is a plot in this country to stop people talking," adds Steve, who is very concerned that people seem to have nowhere to vent their spleen. And why? "So they can brainwash you into doing whatever you're told," he thunders. "They", of course, are the Government.

The Grumpy Club - it's motto is "...and another thing" - meets every Tuesday evening and visitors are welcomed - provided they have something to say and are in a prickly mood.
