Development is put on hold

PLANS to build more than 300 flats and a hotel at Priestley Road and Aldermaston Road in Basingstoke have been put on hold.
The development, which proposes the construction of 313 flats, a 50-bedroomed hotel and a restaurant at the Aldermaston Road triangle site, has been recommended for approval by council planning officers.
However, at a meeting of the development control committee at Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, the application was deferred so that councillors can view the site before reaching a decision.
If planning permission is granted, the apartment complex will be situated near Basingstoke hospital and will be built by Taylor Wimpey plc.
It comprises 124 one and two-bedroomed affordable apartments and 188 one and two-bedroomed market apartments.
There will also be 345 parking spaces provided and 313 secure cycle parking spaces.
A 50-bedroomed Premier Travel Inn Hotel and Brewers Fayre restaurant will be operated by Whitbread plc.
The application details plans for 93 parking spaces for the hotel, five of which are for staff, and 19 cycle racks.
Councillor Karen Cherrett, ward member for Rooksdown, said: "I think we need to consider very carefully the impact of such a development without necessary infrastructure."
The application will be decided at the next development control meeting on July 23.
