New priests ordained

1:49pm Wednesday 16th July 2008

FOUR new priests have been ordained by the Bishop of Basingstoke at a ceremony at St Michael's Church.

The service took place at the Church Street venue the day before Petertide, the feast day of St Peter the Apostle, which is traditionally the time when the Church of England ordains most of its deacons and priests to serve within the Church.

The Right Reverend Trevor Willmott, Bishop of Basingstoke, conducted the ceremony, and the preacher invited to attend the service by the Bishop was Dr Lucy Carter, theology tutor in Christian Doctrine at St Steven's House, Oxford.

Yann Dubreuil was ordained as a full-time priest to work in Four Marks. Ian Melvyn Toombs, Susan Hobbins and Lesley Ann Leon were ordained as voluntary part-time priests and will continue with employment alongside their work within the church, at Alton St Lawrence, Hatherden with Tangley, Weyhill and Penton Mewsey, and Northanger respectively.
