Shareen Beswick THE June meeting of the Kimpton Parish Council opened with the news that at the end of the year Richard Perry will no longer be mowing the children's play are and will be relinquishing his role as the local neighbourhood watch co-ordinator.

The councillors thanked Richard for his sterling work. Volunteers will be sought to replace him.

The following topics were then discussed: Rights of way: The landowner had been notified of complaints concerning barbed wire fencing alongside the Cow Lane track.

A volunteer had cleared a substantial length of the Ox Drove and a working group would be convened at the end of the nesting season to clear vegetation from the remaining section.

Village plan: There had been no further progress with a village plan. The matter would be discussed at the next council meeting.

Kimpton, Thruxton and Fyfield CE Primary School: Potholes on the footpath and on the road opposite the school continues to be a problem, as does overgrown vegetation.

There is also the nuisance of dog fouling on the footpath either side of the school. Dog owners were asked to act responsibly.

Play area inspection: Councillors received the independent inspector's report following the annual inspection of the children's play area. There were no major concerns but a working party would be convened to carry out general maintenance.

Street names: The main item for discussion at the June meeting was a proposal to clarify street names in the village. As emergency services are now operating on a regional basis, street names and addresses are becoming imperative.

The section of road from the village green to the hall currently has no official designation and residents will be consulted on the following suggested names: Deacon Road, Ridgeway Road/Lane or Kimpton Road/Lane.

Telephone kiosk: BT were proposing to remove the telephone kiosk located outside Littleton Cottages. Test Valley Borough Council had objected to the proposal but asked for comments. The council supported the borough council's objections.

Next meeting: The next meeting of the council will be held on 29 July, at 7.30pm. Members of the public are welcome to attend.
