KENNET District Council is gearing up for a mountain of extra rubbish during the Olympics and is urging residents in Tidworth and Ludgershall to recycle for Team GB.
It's estimated an additional 14,000 tonnes of rubbish will be generated during the competition, ranging from leftovers and paper, to plastic bottles and medical waste.
It's roughly the same as all the waste that the entire Kennet district sent to landfill during 2007.
Cllr Paula Winchcombe, chairman of the council's community development executive committee said: "The Olympics may not be taking place in your backyard, but why not do your bit for the environment and recycle all those extra cans and bottles generated over the two-week period. Or why not have your own Olympic competition and see how much of the contents of your black wheeled bin you can minimise, re-use or recycle."
