IF you want to know more about researching family and local history drop in to Andover library and meet staff from Hampshire Archives and Local Studies.

They will be visiting the library regularly to give advice on researching family and local history, and information on the fascinating resources available at Hampshire Archives and Local Studies in Winchester.

There will be the opportunity to see glimpses of Andover's past captured on camera, through high days and holidays in New Street, to the carnival and Weyhill Fair, and the chance to see unique documents which illustrate this past, such as records from Andover schools in days gone by.

Also among the archives in Winchester are original copies of the Andover Advertiser stretching back to 1859.

Visitors will have a chance to see behind the scenes at Hampshire Archives and Local Studies at its open day on 13 September.

For anyone interested in tracing their family tree, beginners' evenings are held there every month.

The evenings are very popular, so people need to book in advance by calling 01962 846154.

Hampshire Archives and Local Studies staff will be at the Local Help Point at Andover Library on 26 August, 17 September and 12 November between 10am and 1pm.
