The Andover Advertiser first with the news

ANDOVER advertiser editor Joe Scicluna has been awarded a Paul Harris Award by the Rotary Club of Andover for his outstanding contribution to the town over the past 20 years.
The award, launched in 1948 following the death of Rotary’s founder, recognises outstanding service to the local and wider community in keeping with the aims of Rotary.
“In an article a couple of months ago in the Andover Advertiser the headline on the front page read ‘Huge vote of confidence in Andover’,” said Gordon Howard, the president of the Rotary Club of Andover. “This was not in fact an article written by Joe but it is a statement which truly summarises Joe’s unwavering commitment to promoting Andover at every opportunity.
“Joe has worked for the Andover Advertiser for 20 years, and has been editor since December 1996 during which time he has been the leading champion for endless local causes aimed at fostering a community spirit in Andover and for promoting a positive feeling within our local community. “He was a founder member of the Andover Vision Board, a member of the Andover Live committee. He has organised the Andover Carnival Prince and Princess Competition single handed for the past 11 years. We in Rotary have always been very grateful to Joe for the way he has supported our own work here in Andover. He has judged our Youth Speaks Competition since 1997 and last year Joe, a glutton for punishment and indeed for good food, stepped forward to join the judges' panel for Young Chef of the Year’ which led to him joining the judges at two regional finals. The members of the Rotary Club of Andover believe Joe has indeed provided an outstanding service to our local community over a great number of years.”
Joe said: “You just go about your business, quietly getting on with things, then something like this happens.
"It is such an honour to be presented with this award, especially given the calibre of past recipients, but an even greater honour and pleasure to have it bestowed by people for whom I have such respect and admiration for all the sterling work they do."
