ANDOVER Rotary Club in conjunction with The Salvation Army are making an appeal for any unused, surplus toys.
Club chairman Gordon Howard said: “Lynda Barber, of the Salvation Army, asked us to let her have any ‘spare’ new toys so that they could help needy families in Andover as they had done last year when they helped over 170 families.
“The fact that there will be families in Andover unable to afford presents for their children made me realise just how fortunate we are.
“Most of us have children, or more likely grandchildren, who have more toys than they know what to do with and who would love to help others in need.
“They will have duplicate presents from birthday parties and others they grew out of before even using.
“Please ask them if they can help.
“I did just that and my daughter and grandaughter arrived with a black sack full of new toys.”
Toys can be taken to the Salvation Army shop next to the Post Office in Bridge Street.
It’s not duplicates from this Christmas that are needed, but ones already to hand and probably forgotten about, so that those receiving the toys can enjoy them at Christmas, rather than afterwards.
