ANDOVER MP Sir George Young’s bid to become the next Speaker of the House of Commons ended late on Monday when he was the last man eliminated from the contest.

He has pledged to continue his work here.

“John Bercow should not pre-judged – he must be given a fair opportunity to show he can do the job – and I hope and believe he can,” said the MP.

“I am philosophical about the outcome, and will re-focus on my main task of representing my constituents and holding the Government to account.”
