THE winner of this year’s Chantry Centre That’s Centretainment talent contest was 13-year-old Jamie Walsh from Andover. The final took place at The Lights, Andover, on Saturday.
Jamie, who attends John Hanson School, was thrilled to win.
“My ambition is to be a professional singer in the West End and I cannot wait to perform at Andover’s Big Festival at Vigo Road Park on Saturday, 15 August,” she said.
Jamie’s prizes also include performing at the Andover Carnival on Sunday and at the Andover Christmas lights switch-on on Friday, 20 November, and a theatre break for two.
The other 12 finalists have also been invited to perform at the Andover Carnival stage on Sunday.
The 13 finalists made up a diverse mix of talent, from an African dance act, a beat boxer and a belly dance troupe to a variety of vocalists, including singer-songwriters and dynamic divas.
Auditions have been held at the Chantry Centre every month since the beginning of March.
Chantry Centre manager Steve Cotney said: “All the judges were looking for raw talent and variety, and the performers certainly delivered.
“All 13 finalists performed fantastically in front of a full house at The Lights. “The finalists surpassed all the judges’ expectations, but Jamie stood out as the winner with her stage presence and powerful voice.”
All proceeds from the sell-out event will support Andover Carnival’s charities, including Andover Young Carers.
The competition was organised by The Chantry Centre in association with Test Valley Borough Council, the Andover Advertiser, Andover Carnival, The Lights and Andover Sound.
