FORMER medal-winning athlete, Andrew Kerr, has been awarded the prize post of chief executive at Wiltshire Council.
Falkirk born Mr Kerr, aged 40, who is currently chief executive of the unitary North Tyneside council, completed the last lap of the selection process on 1 November and the news was relayed to councillors on Thursday.
The record-breaking salary attached to the post is just a shade under £200,000 a year.
No details of when current chief executive, Dr Keith Robinson will hand on the baton to the speedy Scotsman have been released, but like Dr Robinson he has a background in education as a trained teacher.
A sportsman in his younger days – he ran the 400 metres at the Commonwealth Games, and won a bronze medal at the European Championships – his plan was to teach.
Instead, he got a job managing an stadium in Falkirk, and began to work his way up through leisure services before moving on to Cardiff as it was bidding for the Commonwealth Games.
