SUNDAY night at The Lights provided the perfect opportunity to be richly entertained as well as give hope and support to the victims of natural disasters across the globe.

Concert for Life was organised on behalf of the Andover Carnival in aid of the Rotary Club’s Shelterbox Appeal.

The 2011 concert had to pull out all the stops to match last year’s event and it succeeded in producing a show that was truly memorable.

The cast included local favourites Jake Ward, Laura Shears and Jamie Walsh who all put in polished performances, along with the Long Overdue Theatre School, Andover Musical and Operatic Society and Lauren Mildenberger and the Ruby Slippers Sparkles Dancers.

The show also introduced Francesca Mulley and Daniel Farr to the event.

A capacity audience was treated to music and dance of a high standard and all had to be impressed by the composure of the young stars and their cool handling of the odd technical hitch.

Music ranged from songs from the shows such as Evita, Lion King and Love Never Dies to swing numbers such as Candyman and modern hits including Chasing Cars and Hallelujah, performed with real feeling by Balksbury Year 6 student Francesca Mulley.

The concert was staged by Maureen Faill and Mark T Lazenby and showcased the remarkable range of talent in Andover and provided an evening of fun and quality entertainment that will also help improve the lives of thousands of disaster victims.

The carnival committee is now hard at work preparing for this year’s Andover Carnival which takes place on Sunday 31 July and will again feature floats.
