Wilts Constabulary inspected four times in 14 months, says MP

TIDWORTH MP Claire Perry has called for a reduction in the number of needless central inspections of local police forces. Speaking during Home Office questions, Mrs Perry asked the Home Secretary if she was aware that the Wiltshire Police Force has had four separate inspections by HMIC in the last 14 months which have lasted three working weeks.

These cost the Force an estimated £50,000-£60,000 and not resulted in any meaningful recommendations and whether the government planned to reform this box-ticking regime.

Speaking after the parliamentary session Mrs Perry said: “I was pleased to hear the Home Secretary’s commitment to tackling the red tape that hampers the work of our police.

“She confirmed that the Policing Minister is working to reduce the bureaucratic burdens of the inspection regime. “ We all want our police visible and available to the public, out on the streets, not stuck behind a desk filling out Whitehall forms.”

I am devastated by this news. Claire Perry would do better to stop try and stop the Wiltshire Police falsifying crime figures. It is well known the Wiltshire Police only mark crimes as actual crimes when they think they can easily obtain enough evidence to solve the crime. That means that their detection rate becomes a high percentage. What they do not tell people is they mark crimes as “incidents” rather than crimes if they don’t think they can get enough evidence. So when a person reports a crime it gets marked as an incident which might get upgraded to a crime. Only crimes are recorded so it makes it easy for the police to hide the actual crime figures and deceive the public into thinking their detection rates are much higher. Get a grip Claire Perry your talking absolute nonsense again. The Wiltshire Police need as many inspections as is humanly possible!
