End of May deadline for new waste site

CONSTRUCTION of the new recycling centre on the Walworth Industrial Estate is due to start by the end of May.

The new split-level household waste recycling centre (HWRC) will be constructed on a parcel of land known as Plot 81 between Scott Close and Livingstone Road.

Construction of the new site should be completed by the end of November.

There will be a minimum of a two week period to deliver and install all the site furniture and it's estimated the new site should be ready to open to the public by mid December - just in time for Christmas.

The existing Andover HWRC in Shepherds Spring Lane will continue to offer its usual service to local residents until the day before the new site is cleared in preparation for handing it back to Test Valley Borough Council, which owns the land.

County Cllr Robin Hughes said: "It's going to make life a lot easier for residents who live in Shepherds Spring Lane, where traffic can be backed up."

Mr Hughes added: "Businesses like the new Sainsbury's will benefit from the better access."
