POLICE have issued a reminder to be vigilant after an elderly man found someone shining a light through his front door in the early hours of the morning during a suspicious incident.

The man in his 70s was watching television at his home in Prince Charles Close, Ludgershall, at around 4am on Thursday, March 16, when he heard a scraping noise at the front door of his retirement bungalow.

When he went into the hallway he saw a torch or mobile phone light being shone at the door.

He kicked the door from the inside and told the person to go away. They were then seen running onto the footpath which runs along the back of Castle Primary School and onto Perham Crescent.

PC Trevor Morgan said: "I'd like to urge residents to be mindful of home security and ensure all doors and windows are locked and doors are fitted with mortice locks. Keep valuable items out of view and never leave a spare key in a plant pot or letter box as thieves will always know where to look.

"We'd like to hear from anybody who may have seen a person in a hoody walking around in the areas of Prince Charles Close and Perham Crescent between the areas of 3am and 5am on March 16.

"I'd also ask those with CCTV or vehicle dash cams to check their footage to see if they have caught anyone suspicious on camera."

Anyone with information should call police on 101.
