A MAN sustained head injuries after being punched in the chest and knocked to the floor during an assault in Tidworth.

The 32-year-old man was walking along Pennings Road at around 2.30am on Saturday, August 12, when he was hit in the chest and knocked to the ground.

His assailant then punched him in the jaw.

He attended hospital the following day for treatment to his injuries and police are now appealing for witnesses to the assault.

PC James Osment said: “This was a really nasty incident – it was fortunate that the victim did not sustain a more serious injury, however he was concussed for several days and did require hospital treatment.

“We are appealing for information in relation to this incident – we believe there were people in the area who would have witnessed the assault and we are really keen to hear from them to help our investigation.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to stress how dangerous a punch can be – many people still don’t understand the impact it can have and the injuries it can cause. We are committed to tackling violent crime and are carrying out a thorough investigation into this incident.”

The offender is described as male, approximately 5ft 9 inches tall, of stocky build, aged approximately 28 to 30-years-old. He was wearing a grey hoody and navy blue shorts.

Anyone with information should call police on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
