PUPILS from St Mary Bourne Primary School were under starters’ orders last Thursday afternoon as they took part in a fun run to raise money for the school.

All 130 participants had been sponsored to take part, which brought the expected total from the run to around £2,000.

The event, which was also sponsored by Planet Sport, who provided refreshments and medals, saw the children run around the school field before heading towards the local recreation ground and back again.

The young runners were marshalled by some volunteer parents and staff.

Head teacher, Jonathan Nelson, said: “The total raised so far is £1,695, although I am short of 25 per cent of the children’s forms so expect it to be near the £2,000 figure.

“We currently use some of our sports funding to buy in one of their (Planet Sport) coaches Chris Neate, who delivers PE to all classes alongside the class teacher.

“Our relationship with Planet Sport has proven to be an excellent partnership and our pupils attitudes to sport and fitness have improved enormously this year.”
