ATTENBOROUGH Class at Grateley Primary School welcomed back former pupil Bethan Davies to help them with their science topic on the heart.
Bethan is currently studying to be a vet at the Royal Veterinary College.
Mrs Thomas, head teacher, said that bringing in visitors to the school, particularly ex-pupils, to help with activities such as this was all about inspiring the children and finding out about careers and professions.
The children are studying the heart and its function, linked in with healthy eating. They were able to look and handle a heart and Bethan identified the parts of the heart and explained to the children how it worked.
They also made a working model of the heart and listened to their own hearts, both at rest and after exercise.
Mrs Hood, class teacher, said that seeing a real heart really piqued the children’s interest and they were able to use their existing knowledge of the heart to ask relevant and enquiring questions.
