SOLDIERS were welcomed by children and staff from Kimpton, Thruxton and Fyfield CE Primary School when the school held their own Armed Forces Day.

This was the second year running for this special day, which coincided with the National Armed Forces Day celebrations and raised £150 for SSAFA (Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Families Association).

The soldiers from 6 Battalion Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers and 26 Engineer Regiment Royal Engineers visited the school with equipment, ration packs and a large recovery vehicle for the children to look at.

There was the opportunity to tackle an obstacle course set up by the troops, wear camouflage and chat to the troops about life in the forces.

Head teacher Jane Simpson said: “The school is grateful for the support from both units and would like to thank them for the opportunity they gave for all pupils to experience a small glimpse of life in the forces.

“We are pretty sure that the visiting troops thoroughly enjoyed their day.”
