FIVE Andover schools were invited to meet a world-famous scientist at an awards ceremony in London.
On 9 March, 13 schools from across the UK were invited to the Dr Jane Goodall Institute Roots and Shoots Awards 2018 at the tropical gardens of London’s Barbican Centre.
Out of the 13 schools invited, five were from Andover, chosen for their environmental work with Andover Trees United which impressed the Roots and Shoots UK team with their work.
Portway Junior School, Andover C of E Primary School, St Peter’s C of E Primary School, Harrow Way Community School, and Rookwood School were able to meet Dr Jane Goodall, best known for her over 55-year study of social and family interactions of wild chimpanzees, to talk to her about their work and receive their awards.
Wendy Davis, a trustee at Andover Trees United said: “It is an incredible achievement for so many schools from a single community to have been singled out in this way – a wonderful achievement for the schools concerned and for the community that they represent.”
The award was sponsored by the Grow Wild team at Kew Gardens.
