STUDENTS at an Andover school were put through their paces to become a part of its leadership team.

Pupils took part in a new tougher application process at Harrow Way, with Chloe Wilfort and Jed Trengrove appointed head girl and boy.

Their deputies will be Indy Jones and Lord Odunlami.

With the aim to reduce the number of prefects and selection criteria meant only students with outstanding behaviour and excellent attendance were invited to apply.

Only 46 students were successful in their application, with 19 appointed senior prefects.

Headteacher Michael Serridge said: “Prefects fulfil an important role in our school community and we feel that only those students with exemplary behaviour and attendance should be afforded the opportunity to apply.

“A key focus throughout Harrow Way is on driving up standards – from teaching and learning in the classroom to the way in which students conduct themselves. We were therefore keen to ensure that these high standards apply to all aspects of the school, including the application process for this year’s prefect team.”

Following their selection the prefect team attended a training session given by trainers from Lloyds Banking Group.
