PUPILS and teachers at John Hanson Community School have been celebrating after their Year 7s exceeded all expectations.

Fifteen students have smashed the target of 300 achievement points target for the school year, months ahead of schedule and beating previous year groups.

Youngsters gain achievement points by getting recognition for continued hard work and achievements in lessons and around school.

Head of Year 7 Helen Webb said: “This year, not only do we already have fifteen with 300 points, but we also have two extra special students who have each received over 600 points.

“The two have received a headteacher awards commending them for their outstanding achievement and all will be invited to this summer’s afternoon tea.”

The two pupils who have achieved the top marks for their high scores are Emily and Harry.

The celebration follows that of previous years in which a select set of students from Years 7, 8 and 9, who have collected 300 achievement points across the year have been invited to a special afternoon tea with their parents, the governors and the senior leadership team in the summer term.

Deputy headteacher Anna Hall said: “It is usually quite tricky to collect 300 points throughout the year but these set of Year 7s have been particularly good.”

Ms Hall added that typically only 15 students from each year group get to the “300 club”.

The school said that the bar has been “well and truly raised” for the Year 7 intake in September.
