IS there anybody still around in Andover who remembers Edward the donkey, who was a regular at fetes and carnivals around the town for many years until his death in January 1953?
His story surfaced in an old copy of the Advertiser which tells of his peaceful death after many years living in a field at Hillside Farm.
Edward would regularly stroll down the lanes from his favourite spot under an apple tree at the farm and demand jam tarts from the children at Portway School and would make an unholy noise until he got a treat.

Edward lived in Dorset before he came to Andover and his owner, Maidee Dene paid tribute to him, as he would give children rides in his yellow cart and helped raise cash for various charities.
Where is, or was, Hillside Farm? The story told that a plaque was to be mounted on the tree under which Edward was buried, and I would love to know whether the site is still there or whether it went the same way as Edward.
