Rotary Shelterboxes reach Burma

I HAVE just read the article on page 11 (9 May) about our council and its leader Ian Carr.

I beg to differ on a lot of his views about our once lovely town.

Does he actually live or shop in Andover?

If you would like to have a flutter or a coffee, fine, but as to anything else other than plenty of pubs there is little else.

Yes we will eventually have a cinema, but will it go the same way as the others?

After all you cannot compare it to Basingstoke where you can get a decent meal within close locality and are very close to local transport.

The council do not listen to the voters over matters that really concern us, they railroad over public opinion.

One example of where they should give serious attention is to the state of our roads.

In our little road we have had countless 'white marks' ringing holes, but they fade and nothing is done, now we have large holes which could take a motorcyclist or cyclist out, or damage our cars, and there are even more important roads which are lacking good maintenance.

Another superstore and even a departmental store (of which we have no name) won't increase our footfall, just a better selection of shops in the middle of our, dare I say, pedestrianised area.

If the said councillor is the longest serving member then perhaps we should have newer, forward thinking people coming forward with new ideas and plenty of enthusiasm for making our town good again.

Lorna Boyne, Albany Road, Andover.
