TIDWORTH may be the most military-dominated town in the country but it still does not have its own war memorial.
A fund, established after the First World War to mark the dead of South Tidworth, still exists however and town councillors are hopeful that this money could be tapped into and topped up by developers’ contributions to provide a memorial.
Councillor Andrew Connolly, said: “The money was never used. We tried to get it from the Charity Commissioners 10 years ago but failed because we didn’t have a project for it.
“But I think there is a consensus that we want to do it.”
Councillors agreed to back the idea by a unanimous vote.
