FETE goers were out in force over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Over 1,000 people attended the Appleshaw Fete and Flower Show which took place on the playing field and in the village hall.

Chairman of the fete committee Vanessa Cuthbertson hailed the day as a huge success: "I think a special mention needs to go to Thelma White who's a member of the WI and bakes for days and days before the fetes and does a fantastic job."

All proceeds from the day went towards local causes.

Goodworth Clatford Fete and Flower Show included a number of traditional stalls as well as a mix representing local and national charities including HART Wildlife and Guide Dogs for the Blind.

Fete Organiser Jane Drew said: "It was brilliant, we had well over 1,000 people there, and raised a significant amount of money for the local church (St Peter's)."

Wherwell Sports and Fete was attended by around 1,500 people and featured a mix of the more traditional fete attractions as well as races and even a tug-o-war between Wherwell and Chilbolton.

Chairman of the playing fields Sean Hutton said: "It was excellent, we had quite a large crowd and managed to raise £4,300.

"The money will go towards maintaining Wherwell playing fields."
