Good Ofsted rating for South View Junior School

A JUNIOR school’s rating has gone from ‘satisfactory’ to ‘good’ following an inspection.

Inspectors from education watchdog Ofsted visited South View Junior School, in Shooters Way, Basingstoke, on December 11, 2012.

The newly-published report said: “Leaders and managers are highly ambitious for the school, resulting in marked improvements since the last inspection, particularly in the quality of teaching and pupils’ achievement.”

The report said that attainment in maths is not as good as in other subjects, and in a minority of lessons, teachers did not intervene quickly enough when activities were not matched to pupils’ abilities. But all areas of the school were graded as ‘good’, including the achievement of pupils and quality of teaching.

Head teacher Sheila Pape said of the report: “It is testament to all the hard work of the staff, pupils and parents. We are very proud.”
