Life-saving equipment installed outside village hall in Shefield-on-Loddon

A POTENTIALLY life-saving defibrillator has been installed outside Sherfield-on-Loddon village hall.
The village hall management committee, although hoping that the equipment will never have to be used, purchased the kit as a precautionary measure.
The use of a defibrillator can be vital after a cardiac arrest, following which the chance of survival decreases by 23 per cent every minute.
Bruce Jones, secretary to the village hall management committee and trustee, said: “It has not been used yet and, of course, that is a good thing. We hope no one has to. But it is available to use in an emergency to everyone who can get to it. Defibrillators can save lives and time is really of the essence.”
He said the idea had been given the thumbs up by villagers, who have welcomed the installation of the device, which is kept in an alarmed, unlocked box outside the village hall in the centre of the village.
The committee spent £900 on the defibrillator and £400 on the heated box in which it has be kept. The defibrillator, when turned on, gives users step by step instructions on how to use it.
