Traffic survey being carried out on Basingstoke roads

RUBBER tubes have been placed across various roads in Basingstoke to record the amount of traffic passing them.

The study is being carried out by Muse Developments as part of the £200million project to regenerate the Basing View business complex.

The company entered a development agreement with Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council in January to create around 650 square foot of new commercial-led development over 15 acres at the business park. This will include a mix of new office space and a business-class hotel. It is envisaged that the project has the potential to double the number of jobs available at Basing View to around 10,000 over 10 years.

The project will begin with a £3.3million investment to improve connectivity to the town centre with work expected to begin this summer. Muse Developments began its traffic survey on March 8, using automatic traffic counters (ATCs) which record the number of vehicles which pass over them, along with the speed at which they are travelling and the classification class of the vehicle. The rubber tubes use the weight of the vehicle to record a pulse of air to calculate this information.

The survey is being carried out to help create a traffic model of Basingstoke, including the Ring Road and key routes within it, which will be used to support the redevelopment project. It is due to end on March 22.
