Police dog assists drug operation launched in Whitchurch

A POLICE operation was launched in Whitchurch to disrupt the supply and use of drugs in the town.

Prompted by concerns from residents about people using drugs, local officers used a force passive drugs detection dog to target areas of the town centre on Friday, March 8.

Several people were spoken to by officers but the dog only indicated that one man had been in contact with drugs. He was searched, but nothing was found.

Information leaflets have been given out to Whitchurch residents to explain what officers were doing.

PC Paula Deery said: “This operation was planned in response to concerns from local residents. We utilised the passive drugs detection dog to send out a strong message to people who live in or visit Whitchurch that drugs are not welcome here.”

Anyone with concerns or questions about drugs can contact PC Deery at Whitchurch police station on 101.
