Week-long event for students
A SUCCESSFUL summer camp for youngsters was rounded off with stage performances.
Children between the ages of five and 13 attended the week-long event at Aldworth School, in Western Way, South Ham, Basingstoke, which was organised for youngsters from local primary and secondary schools.
Terry Lynch, assistant headteacher at Aldworth, said: “It gave mixed age groups the chance to participate in activities like problem-solving, amateur dramatics and to develop a whole range of other things like considering healthy lifestyles.
“It also allows youngsters to form friendships with those from different places and age-groups, and to realise that they are entitled to equal opportunities. Some children took part in fencing, for example, which they will never have done before.”
Mr Lynch said an average of 46 students attended each day throughout the week, which was a very good response, and it had been very rewarding to see so many parents turn up to the final day of celebration.
He said: “All in all, the feedback has been very good.” He added the financial support from Sovereign Housing Association had been important in staging the summer camp.
