Robber strikes on Basing View footpath
A CYCLIST pinned a woman to the ground on a Basingstoke footpath and ripped off her necklace.
The robbery took place on the path to the rear of the AA building in Basing View, by the railway line, at 5pm on Friday, August 9.
A man on a bike approached the 61-year-old victim and pinned her down.
He demanded money and stole two mobile phones she had with her, before ripping off a necklace she was wearing.
The attacker, believed to have an Eastern European accent, was carrying two green carrier bags on his bike, which had clothing in them.
Detective Constable Nick Hines, of Basingstoke CID, said: “This was an extremely frightening incident for this woman.
“Although she wasn’t physically injured, she was very shaken by what happened to her.”
Anyone with information, including anyone who may have seen the cyclist in town around the time of the incident, is asked to contact Det Con Hines on 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
