Neighbour rescued woman from house in Bay Tree Way, Oakridge
A WOMAN has been arrested following a house fire in Basingstoke last night.
The fire, in the front room of a house in Bay Tree Way, Oakridge, was reported to firefighters at 8.30pm.
Fire crews arrived to see a male neighbour leading a woman out of the house. The woman was then treated for smoke inhalation.
Crew manager David Bowen said the neighbour broke a downstairs window to enter the house and rescue the woman, who was said to be in her 40s.
He added that another woman was also treated for smoke inhalation.
A total of 16 firefighters attended the fire, which Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service said was out on arrival.
The cause of the fire is being treated as suspicious and police officers arrested a 47-year-old woman from Basingstoke in connection with the incident. She is currently in police custody.
