Sir John Madejski opens new library at The Clere School
HE’S well known for being associated with Reading – but it was reading that was on the agenda as Sir John Madejski officially opened a school library.
The chairman of Reading Football Club, and founder of Auto Trader magazine, visited The Clere School, in Burghclere, where he delivered a presentation to a group of senior citizens about his life from humble beginnings to the growth of his business empire, as well as his work and achievements in the education sector and arts.
Pat Farley, from Burghclere, who attended the talk, said: “I thought we were in for a talk about football but I was amazed at all the things Sir John has achieved in his life. It was very inspirational.”
Following the presentation, Sir John officially opened the new library at the school, cutting a ribbon to declare it ready for use.
Speaking about The Clere, he said: “It is a very nice school and what a lovely setting.
Sir John then spoke to a group of Year 7 students. Year 7 pupil Jacob Lee, who listened to the talk, said: “Sir John told us a job is like a book. Bad or good, just keep on going.”
Fellow pupil Toby Lewis added: “The way he talked was really exciting. We understood his message about finding what you’re good at and sticking at it. He was genuinely helpful.”
Felicity Martin, headteacher at The Clere, said: “We were delighted to welcome Sir John to our school, and we are very privileged to have had him here.”
