CHRISTMAS shoppers looking for a helping hand with wrapping their presents can turn to volunteers from Shopmobility, and help out the charity at the same time.

The Basingstoke charity is running a service up until Christmas Eve – wrapping gifts in return for a donation.

Shopmobility, based in Church Street, Basingstoke, provides mobility scooters and wheelchairs to people who suffer from mobility challenges, so they are able to visit the shops in town.

The present wrapping service is based outside Debenhams on the ground floor of Festival Place.

Staff from Basingstoke businesses are helping out this year, keeping the service running in the run up to Christmas Day.

Anne Blackmore, manager of Shopmobility, in Basingstoke, said: “The service is very popular with the public. Some of them find wrapping tricky, some like to take their shopping home wrapped so that they don’t need to hide it, and some are on their way to a party with a Secret Santa gift and ask us to write the tag as well!

“I am extremely grateful to the increased support from local companies this year. Sun Life Financial of Canada, Scottish and Southern Electric, Unum and Shoosmiths all have employees wrapping for us.

“This reduces the pressure on the Shopmobility office and the individuals who also help out at what is a busy time for everyone.”

The gift wrapping service is available from 10am until 8pm today, tomorrow and Monday, or between 10am and 5pm on Saturday, Sunday and Christmas Eve.
