Police in Basingstoke are reminding residents to keep their properties secure after a number of burglaries in the town.

On January 12, between 4pm and 8pm, offenders gained entry to a house in Galloway Close, by reaching through an open rear window and opening the rear door. Once inside, they stole watches and jewellery.

On the same day, between 5.40pm and 8.45pm, offenders broke into a house in Pack Lane by forcing a rear window. Jewellery, cash and watches were stolen. Officers are also investigating a report of an attempted burglary, which happened some time between January 11 and January 13.

Marks were seen on a rear door of a house in Coniston Road, a garage lock was broken and signs of an attempt to force a door have been found. Fortunately no access was gained and nothing was stolen.

Also on January 11, offenders broke into a house in Neville Close. The resident noticed items had been moved around in her property. It is believed the offenders may have been disturbed.

PC Mark Pullman said: “Do you know anything about any of these incidents? Have you seen people acting suspiciously or cars you don’t recognise in your local area?

“If you have any information which could assist our investigations, please contact us. “I would also like to remind people to ensure their doors and windows are kept secure. Don’t leave ladders or heavy implements in your garden – these could be used by offenders to try and break into your home.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Basingstoke police station on 101 or call the charity Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111, where information can be left anonymously.
