A NEW café could soon be opening up in a former well-known Basingstoke town centre shop.

Kay Lucas-Carter, from The Kitschen Cafe, in Boyce Close, Basingstoke, has applied to Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council to change the use of a former furniture shop to a tea shop.

Under the plans, the vacant premises, in Feathers Lane, which used to be occupied by Foleys Furniture, would be transformed into a commercial kitchen on the ground floor, and an office in the basement.

Miss Lucas-Carter withdrew plans submitted in August last year, but has now re-submitted them including more details of her proposal.

Her application states: “We would like to create a vibrant café to meet the needs of local residents, town centre employees and visitors to the town.

“We aim to build a strong loyal customer base by providing only the freshest and best-quality produce.”

Ingredients would be sourced from a local farm and bakery, with all food prepared on site.

The majority of food would be made-to-order sandwiches, quiches, soup and cake. Around 30 seats would be provided.

Miss Lucas-Carter also hopes to offer the café, at Top of The Town, to local groups to use as a meeting place.
